Vulnerabilities United Kingdom – Landslides in the future

A reduction of the landslide return period between now and 2080s has been projected for the United Kingdom (1), based on projections of changes in rainfall. Temperature changes, however, might influence the response of landslide through increased evapotranspiration leading to a change in the triggering precipitation thresholds that counterbalances the impact of changes in precipitation (1). Others state that for southeast England the expected increase in rainfall for the horizon 2080 is countered by the increase in temperature and, hence, the frequency of shallow landslides in this area will not change substantially (2).
