Vulnerabilities Slovakia
Plants and animals from southern Europe gradually infiltrate Slovakia, including Mediterranean species of spiders and insects. Along with the migration of insects new pests are found in Slovakia. The expansion of invasive fish species is another serious problem; they come from the lower part of the Danube up the river and migrate into the rivers of Eastern Slovakia (1).
Adaptation strategies
Strategies of the Slovak authorities especially focus on reducing the risk of invading species that may affect biodiversity, agriculture, forestry and health. They include the identification, assessment and monitoring of risks by pests, parasites and pathogenic species, the monitoring of changes in the structure of communities in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, measures to protect endangered species and communities, and measures to prevent drying-up of wetlands and water biotopes, and the decrease of flows in rivers (1).
