Storms

There is a lot of cross-border information on storms in Northern, Western and Central Europe. This information is summarized on the page for Europe in the window 'Storms: European scale'.

A comprehensive analysis of windstorms and forest damage was carried out for the Czech Lands, covering 215 years (1801-2015). The concentration of outstandingly damaging windstorms after 1950 is a signal of increasing windstorm damage to forests in the Czech Lands. This is not a signal of a changing (storm) climate, however. This concentration of outstandingly damaging storms may be attributed in part to the negative consequences of forest management that prioritises high, short-term profits over ecological well-being: two tree-generations of spruce monoculture were cultivated in places where diverse forests once stood (1).
